Transcript of Video Content:

Welcome to Stock Fiction!

Experimental fiction inspired by stock photography.

What to expect when you’re subscribing.

Post Frequency - When you’re going to get it.

You will receive a piece of short fiction once a week, delivered to your inbox (or the Substack App) every other Thursday at 9:00 AM (EST)

In addition to your weekly fiction, you will also receive occasional “bonus” posts, including essays, “author speak”, announcements, and reflections. I try not to overdo these posts, so you can expect 2-3 per month.

OUTLIERS

These are posts that live outside the realm of my usual fiction, and could be described as impulsive, saucy, cringeworthy, experiment, and all in good fun. Outliers will show up sporadically, and I will always give you fair warning about their arrival.

Stock Fiction Mission Statement

To provide entertainment for open-minded people who enjoy surprises and love reading whatever I throw at them.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, let’s keep going!

If you’re curious about the types of fiction I’m writing, here’s a general breakdown of what I posted between October 2022 and February 2023.

45% Short Fiction Stories

22% Novel Excerpts (I write those, too!)

23% Nonfiction (Essays, etc.)

10% Film/Video

Here’s a more detailed breakdown of the Short Fiction category. Number indicates the number of posts between October and February.

12 - Contemporary Fiction

4 - Humor/Satire

4 - Genre Fiction (Horror, Romance, etc.)

1 - Poetry

Stock Fiction is intended for a wide (mostly adult) audience, so take the next breakdown of the “intended audience” of my stories with a grain of salt. You’re going to want to read all of it. You don’t need to be a teenager to appreciate my Young Adult offerings. However, you may need to have an appreciation for immature humor to enjoy my Adult Child offerings.

5 - Adult

5 - Young Adult

2 - Adult Child

Projections for future content breakdowns???

I don’t have any.

The important thing to keep in mind is that when it comes to story creation, I’m all over the map. Stock Fiction is an experiment and therefore my work will be largely experimental and rarely predictable.

But you like surprises, right?

Rave Reviews

Sometimes even open-minded people like to hear that someone else is into to something like this before they take the plunge. The following accolades came directly from Stock Fiction readers’ comments.

“OMG!”

“This is so good!”

“A wonderful experiment!!”

“Woah! I was not expecting this at all, but damn…”

“This was hilarious!”

“> I may orgasm…”

“This was a delight!”

“Now that is a lovely, lovely story.”

“Once again, I am moved by your characters.”

“Well, this was gripping and awesome!”

“Awwww… this is great!”

“Oh, shit, Meg, that was amazing!!”

Who Am I?

My name is Meg. My favorite color is purple. I like cake, flowers, music, the ocean, and anything that makes me laugh. My family is wonderful and real, despite rarely being mentioned on my Substack. I have eleven pets (two mammals, seven fish, two gastropods). My friends are few but fabulous.

When I grow up, I want to be a writer.

You're still reading this, so I assume that means I made a solid pitch.

Thanks for subscribing.

It's gonna be fun.

:-)
