Actually surprised you didn't submit this one to the ikeepforgettingtheirname people...

It didn't fit the theme of the collection. And TBH, not my BEST work. Which is what I submitted to the theirnameisirrelevantatthisstageintheprocess people. 😉

Two things! 1) https://youtu.be/mwocyfuEyQw?feature=shared any story that recalls my favorite college era track is mucho welcomo! 2) the semester I studied counseling psychotherapy, the instructor taught us this technique for discussing recurring dreams. Yes, describe the dream. Express your feelings, your desires in the dream. But then! And this is where the magic happened, you ROLEPLAY as another character in this recurring dream. How do they feel!?! What are their desires?!? How do they feel towards the you in the dream?!?! Anyhow, the student volunteer for this technique had described a recurring dream where a tyrannosaurus stood outside his window waving. When he roleplayed into the dinosaur, he made a connection on the dinosaur really was and wanted and went from laughing, look at my silly dream, to bawling and cursing, and our instructor had to end the class early and hug him a lot.

Not to overhype the technique, but you never know, so, to be best prepared, before you roleplay into other character’s POV in your recurring dream, make sure there is a hugger nearby

I always make sure there's a hugger nearby.

1) I'm dying. 😂

2) That is fascinating. Most of my recurring dreams involve environments more than people. Would be interesting to try to write from the POV of a dilapidated building that is my high school but isn't my high school. Or a highly treacherous series of bridges without guardrails. But I'm down for the experiment.

Try it! What does that bridge want? What does that bridge think about you??

The bridge thinks I’m chicken shit. That’s why it’s testing me. 😉

Yeah, that lady needs to take the bus, if you ask me. A great tale, Meg! Are you aware how much your writing has grown in the 20 months since you wrote that story? It is such a fine way to check progress. (I go back to my earliest all the time to compare.)

It is remarkable to see how differently (and yet how similarly) I write now. I feel like I always recognize myself in the tone/rhythm of my stories very quickly - even ones I wrote WAY back when I was a teenager. I think my story craft has evolved a lot over time, but my voice(s) are very consistent and classic "me". 🙂

Meg, these are all exciting developments! I had been wondering about the future of Fictionistas for a while, but now I know for certain it has been left in the best of hands. Best wishes with Fictionistas as well as your open mic event! I’m excited for you!

Hilarious characterization of the therapist. Yeah, if I felt a dream was prophetic, I'd skip the subway.

Thank you, K.C.

I agree about the subway. Better safe than vaporized.
