I enjoyed the story so much I forgot to look for clues! Such a vibrant imagination! But I will guess the same year I was born. 1976.

You know what this totally reminds me of. Jane Austen's juvenilia. Really funny satire by a kid.

What a wonderful compliment for my younger self. 🥰 Thank you, Mary. My brand of humor was vastly underappreciated at the time.

Well, I’m a little late getting to this, but I wanted to let you know that this is one of my all-time favorite Substack pieces. I love everything about it! 😄 Also, how in the world did you find this gem of a story?!

I have to thank my mother for keeping everything from when we were in school. Now she's in the habit of giving us giant boxes full of stuff like this. For us to "go through". It was honestly hard for me to choose one story from the bunch to share, but this one just had a nice vibe and rhythm to it. And I honestly feel like I could have written it yesterday and it would have sounded exactly the same. 😂 Except with fewer 90s references.
