Thank you so much, Victor. I just recently pinned this story to the top on my homepage. It was the first one I ever wrote on Substack and I only had five subscribers at the time I published it. It has since been buried under new material and rarely viewed. But it is one of my favorites and a pretty good example of what I'm up to over here. 🙂Thank you for reading!
I had it bookmarked from earlier. I do that sometimes as I'm cruising around the SubstackVerse and I can't necessarily read something right away, but want to find my way back to the story - and the stack itself. It's a feature I like. I still have some others to catch up on.
And I'm glad that's a good example of what you're up to. Look forward to more!
Wow, that was cool. I kept waiting for it to go somewhere deeper, feminist maybe, but it didn’t. Really interesting. Do you know the Anderson .Paak song “Put Me Thru?” Your story reminded me of it. My wife and I joke that it’s her song, but if I ever voiced why we say that, it would just be too much.
Not familiar with the song. Or if I am, I forget. I wish I was a better feminist in my writing. But the gal is almost always going to fall for the gray-eyed, wheat intolerant, Uber driver if I'm behind the narrative wheel. 😊 Sorry to disappoint.
I'm with you, Mark. Donuts are a problem for me, in that I will eat them if they are there, regardless of their quality or level of sophistication. They also make me feel like garbage after I eat them, so this story was as much a self-directed cautionary tale as it was a piece of magical realism. Thanks for reading. 🍩
Thank you, Chevanne! This one is about as sweet as the come. A deeper dive into my oeuvre will reveal far saltier tales. But when the mood strikes (and it often does), I'm all for waxing whimsical and letting things end happily. 💜
Thanks, Anna! You're in for a wild ride. My stories have been known to invade kitchens, dining rooms, master bedrooms, upstairs closets, front porch swings, attics and those creepy basement crawl spaces people usually ignore until an animal moves in. 😂
I love this story, Meg, it's so sweet (and I love donuts.) It reminds me a little of a story I wrote called "The Crier" which I'll publish on Ford Knows if I don't get a Yes from the submissions it's on. 🍩🩷
Now that is a lovely, lovely story. It seems that you can look at at photo and go full inventive. Nicely done!

I loved it. I would be in serious trouble if I had jelly donut fingers. Or at least weigh 400 pounds.

Thank you kindly. 🙂Here's hoping I can keep you enthralled.
I want to be her beloved Auntie, and you had me at "donut fingers". Raspberry filling, yum!
P. S. Very well crafted story, thank you!
Thank you, Jenise. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Another brilliant little story, loved reading it! 👏🏼😊
Thank you, Monica! 🍩♥️
This is so cool. What an amazing idea for a story. It's like a fairy tale with its own little happily ever after! Great!
Thank you, Ben. The photo really takes the credit on this one. I just had to tell that girl's story!!!
What a great, wise story, Meg. I love it.
Thank you! And thank you for sharing it!
Omg, this is so sweet. Really love this. It’s the first of your stories that I’ve read! Happy to have had this introduction.

Can't love this more! It is so up my street it's practically in my kitchen. Subscribing.

Very happy to have you aboard!

Thanks, Troy. So glad you enjoyed this one. I submitted it to a few outlets last year. One even came back with a "we loved it, but..." rejection.
It's all good. Donut girl seems happy here among friends.
It's an adult fairy tale, one of my faves.
Love this - and not only because I'm another GF finger licker!
😂Thanks, Johnathan.
What a great story. Always love a sweet, wheat free, happy ending too. Jo 😊
Thanks, Jo! I'm so glad you enjoyed this tale of love overcoming food allergies. 💜
Found this. Yay!
Huzzah! 🎉
Quest completed. And the reward was damn worth it. Thanks for the challenge and, of course, the story, Meg.
Hooray! Thanks for playing, and reading. 🙂
