Welcome back to
, the (mostly) short fiction newsletter inspired by stock photography.Dear readers,
I’ve been feeling indecisive of late. Of always, really, but that’s neither here nor there because I can’t decide whether “that” should be here or there. Needless to say, it was a struggle deciding what to share with you all this week. And every week, really, but that’s neither here nor …. never mind.
Add to my indecisiveness the fact that summer is a wet and wild time with little to no structure and has proved itself a worthy adversary to my creative flow and my routine.
I also can’t ignore the blessing that there are thirty more of you here today than there were two weeks ago. I don’t know where you all came from, but I’m very grateful you’re here. 💜
In recognition of your bravery (and the fact that I feel a tremendous amount of pressure to impress you), you’re getting a choose-your-own-adventure style experience this week. My hope is to provide a cross-section of the various types of stories you’ll see on Stock Fiction, as I’ve yet to successfully mash all my voices and genres into one story casserole that I can then hold up to people who ask what I’m making here and say, “Oh, I’m making this.”
If I ever do write that story, you’ll be the first to know.
Until then, let’s eat.
The Menu
I invite you to run your eyes over today’s list of fan favorites, author picks, and stories my mom liked. Let your literary taste buds be your guide. I’ve provided a tantalizing quote from each piece to help whet your appetite.
Bon Appetit!
To my newest readers, welcome aboard!
To my diehards, thank you for sticking with me!

Decisively yours,
And now, a word from my sponsor…
Wil says, come on in. The water’s fine.

Meg, love this idea! What an excellent way to introduce yourself to new readers. I also completely relate to the lack of structure during summer. I just spent a solid fifteen minutes chasing my half-naked children around the house trying to get dressed. Mission accomplished.
Wait...no. They’re naked again. Oh well. We’ll just have to go with the “wild and free” theme for today.
Not looking for hidden track as instructed but enjoyed hopscotching down memory lane...
